Face Book Suicide!

Face Book Face Book was great for a long time. I used to love Face Book, but Face Book applications got annoying and more annoying and more annoying, and then just a huge nuisance. Having up to thirty application invites every day to stuff you probably don't want is really annoying. Especially when you can get multiple invites from the same applications from well meaning friends on the same day. The applications cover everything from vampire wars, pirate vs. ninja wars, and rabbit wars, to dumb group circles that grouped your friends in to weird catogories, and a crowd cloud that listed your friends interests in a big cloud and listed the most popular ones in bigger text. When Face Book has to ask you if you would like to make a second page to your profile to move all the extra applications to. I had five different walls on my profile, and one that even disabled the Face Book wall so that it could have a monopoly. One wall added a "Foward This" button that made it even more annoying, because people in your friends list would foward a "meaningful" (aka stupid) heart wrenching story of some kid that was lost and nobody knew where he was and that I should pass this on to everyone else because if that was my son then I would want everyone else to pass it on. Then someone that has a lot of friends in common with you, sends it to all of their friends and then a lot of them also pass it to all of their friends (including you) and this happens over and over, so you get the same message that you didn't want in the first place multiple times. Then the application sends you an email every time some one posts on your wall so they can fill up G-Mail's servers as well. And all of the applications add a link underneath your picture on you profile, so that everyone that actually wants to use it can't find what they want because there are over 50 links there and no one is going to take the time to read all of them to find one that is worth clicking.

As in most things there is always a silver lining. There were some good applications such as Super Poke, Grafiti, what ever that game was were you could die of dysentry, and the racing game. But these were drowned in the massive abyss of the others that spam emailed you, and took over your profile.

I say all of this to say that it was all to much. I couldn't live this way anymore. I just wanted it all to end. I commited Face Book suicide. My account is no more. You can search for Ryan Hollis, but all you find is just an account from someone in South Mississippi. I might try to start over on Face Book and see if I can use their new techniques of avoiding all the spam to help my life, but I feel so free since I quit Face Book that I am not. Having your own website instead doesn't have any of the problems of Face Book.
